Ginger, the Root
Ginger (Zingiber officinale) is an aromatic root tuber that has been valued as a spice for centuries - especially for its characteristic pungency and fresh citrus note.
Today, ginger is grown all over the world - mainly in tropical and subtropical regions.
Our Quality: Organic Ginger from Peru
Ben's Ginger only uses organic ginger from Peru. We have been sourcing the fresh ginger directly from a farmers' cooperative for many years, with whom we have a long-term partnership.
Peru offers good conditions for ginger: Cultivation at higher altitudes (around 1000 m above sea level) and mineral-rich soils of volcanic origin. This can result in a particularly intense aroma.
Special Pungency and Aroma
The spiciness and typical ginger aroma are created by natural ingredients such as essential oils, gingerols and shogaols. It is precisely this combination that gives Peruvian ginger its spicy, pungent taste and clear citrus note that many people like.
